Wild knots

Wild knots, a class of knots which cannot be represented by polygonal paths in 3-dimensional space, are investigated as an embellishment to the Celtic style of ornamental knotwork. Wild knotwork designs are compared to fractal knotwork designs and the traditional technique of N-interlacement. It is shown that all three styles may co-exist in one design. r 2006 Elsevier Ltd. \chaotic" Knots and \wild" Dynamics 1

The delicate interplay between knot theory and dynamical systems is surveyed. Numerous bridges between these elds allow us to apply dynamical perspectives (entropy, \chaotic") to knot theory, as well as knot-theoretic perspectives (cablings, \wild") to dynamical phenomena and bifurcations thereof. This intricate relationship has opened new doors in the study of ODE models of physical systems, w...

Complex Structures Defined on Dynamically Triangulated Surfaces

A method to define the complex structure and separate the conformal mode is proposed for a surface constructed by two-dimensional dynamical triangulation. Applications are made for surfaces coupled to matter fields such as n scalar fields (n = 0, 1 and 4) and m Ising spins (m = 1 and 3). We observe a well-defined complex structure for cases when the matter central charges are less than and equa...

On Schrödinger Operators with Dynamically Defined Potentials

The purpose of this article is to review some of the recent work on the operator (Hxψ)n = −ψn−1 − ψn+1 + λV (Tx)ψn (0.1) on `(Z), where T : X → X is an ergodic transformation on (X, ν) and V is a real-valued function. λ is a real parameter called coupling constant. Typically, X = T = (R/Z) with Lebesgue measure, and V will be a trigonometric polynomial or analytic. We shall focus on the papers ...

Lower bounds for the dynamically defined measures

The dynamically defined measure (DDM) Φ arising from a finite measure φ0 on an initial σ-algebra on a set X and an invertible map acting on the latter is considered. Several lower bounds for it are obtained and sufficient conditions for its positivity are deduced under the general assumption that there exists an invariant measure Λ such that Λ ≪ φ0. In particular, DDMs arising from the Hellinge...
